1.

Check the volume of the space is suitable and select the location of the Automist mist head.

Obtain a drawing of the space you would like to protect. A single Automist unit was tested by BRE in a volume of up to 80 cubic metres (8 x 4 x 2.5 m) with fire hazards up to 5m away. The spray head should be within 5m of and in the approximate line of sight of any possible fire hazard. Where several options exist, the more central location for the mist head is preferred.

2.

Verify that the water supply and electrical connection are suitable

Automist requires a reliable cold water supply (6 lpm flow and 1-10 bar pressure) with a standard domestic ¾” BSP connection and an approved isolation valve. It should be powered by an independent circuit either via a delayed action RCD or no RCD (1.33kW, 230V and 50Hz) with an unswitched fused connection unit with flex outlet.

3.

Obtain building control approval

Automist’s suitability as a compensatory measure must be judged on a case by case basis and is subject to building control approval.

Together with our partners we can help you justify the use of Automist to your Building Control Officer. Certain layouts may require a custom fire engineered justification. We can provide a “formal statement of suitability” or a “technical evaluation and fire development simulation” from a third party fire engineer. 4.

Install the Automist unit

Automist should be specified, commissioned and signed-off by Plumis or an Accredited Reseller when used as a compensatory measure to meet building regulations or to meet fire safety law. Each reseller is fully trained to ensure that every project is installed to a high standard. Once your installer has commissioned your unit, they will register your product by sending us a completed commissioning form or registering your unit online.
