Automist

Automist, a patented water mist based device which mounts discreetly underneath a standard kitchen tap. By targeting the kitchen, Automist addresses over half of all domestic fires, and allows complete coverage of small bedsit and studio apartments. Water mist is ideal for the kitchen and is an effective suppressant on both electrical and liquid fires.

James Dyson said: “This simple but clever device should become a permanent safety feature in the home. Smoke alarms are essential part of modern life but have remained fundamentally unchanged for forty years. Automist not only detects a fire but can put it out as well.”

How does Automist work?

In the event of an uncontrolled fire, a wireless heat detector in the centre of the room triggers an under-sink pump. Heat detection is the most reliable form of fire detection and the trigger is set at the industry-standard. The pump then drives mains water through the unique nozzle unit which quickly fills the kitchen volume with 30% water creating an inert atmosphere and suppressing the blaze. Automist repositions the sprinkler under the kitchen tap, where installation is simple and quick.
