Plumis Ltd. is an innovative company which seeks to create products and services that set the standard for seamless property and life protection in the home. Plumis's first product is Automist, a unique automatic fire suppression platform. Our motivation is to help introduce affordable domestic fire protection into the mainstream.

Plumis has its roots in a project at the Royal College of Art (RCA) and Imperial College Business School (ICBS). Fire extinguishers in residential blocks are increasingly regarded by risk assessors as fire risks, as they can delay evacuation and encourage untrained people to fight dangerous fires. As a response to this insight and through substantial interaction with the fire protection industry, an RCA team developed a series of novel applications of water mist fire suppression technology.

William Makant

Managing Director

William is an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a family background in the fire protection industry.  He is also an experienced product developer, having led multiple engine development projects at Ford Motor Company in Brazil, the UK and Germany.  He holds an MBA from Imperial College London.

Alan Hart

Commercial Director

Originally a physicist, Alan spent 11 years in innovation consulting, bringing science and technology to new consumer products. Alan has an M.A. and Ph.D. in Physics from Cambridge and an MBA from Imperial College London. He is a named inventor on one granted patent and two patents pending.

Yusuf Muhammad

Technology Director

Yusuf is a BAFSA approved Sprinkler Designer (BS 9251:2005).
A co-inventor of Automist, he has one patent pending. Yusuf is a multi award winning industrial designer with experience working with clients such as P&G and Research In Motion. He has an Honours Masters degree in Engineering with a specialty in materials (GradIMMM - Institute of Materials). Yusuf also has a double Masters in Innovation Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College.

Paul Thomas

Design Director

A co-inventor of Automist, Paul has two granted patents and one patent pending. Paul is an experienced product design engineer with numerous achievements and awards. His design for the Nokia 1100 (which he oversaw from concept to production) is now the world’s best-selling mobile phone, at over 200 million units. Prior to 8 years at Nokia, he gained extensive metal and composite experience as a toolmaker at Westland Aerospace. Paul recently completed a double Masters in Innovation Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College.
